Apollo 11 was a realization of the goal set forth by President Kennedy to send men to the moon before the end of the 1960s. Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first ever to walk on the surface of the moon while Command Module Pilot orbited above. This took place 40 years ago and 65 years after the Wright Brothers flew their aircraft for the first time in Kittyhawk, NC in 1903.
